4 Easy Steps To Clean and Maintain Your Security Roller Shutters

by admin on February 3, 2017 in Security Roller Shutters

Security roller shutters don’t require a lot of maintenance to keep them in great working order. Security Integrated Shutters are made from high-quality aluminium alloy so they are some of the most durable and easy-to-maintain shutters. But, they occasionally need a little TLC to keep them looking their best.

How to clean and maintain your shutters to keep them looking and working their best:

1. Sweep away litter or debris
Every month or so depending on the weather and what area you live in, simply sweep away any litter or debris from the guides of the security roller shutters to ensure they continue to operate smoothly. With the shutters just slightly open, brush the ventilation holes and the surface. Check the pelmet or head box for any leaves, twigs or dirt that may have been trapped in there and sweep these away as well. Once a year you may want to grease the bearings to ensure the rolling mechanism operates smoothly and lubricate the guide rails to ensure they open and close easily.

2. Clean the shutters and wipe dry
You can use your garden hose to wash your exterior security roller shutters. A high-pressure spray isn’t necessary. Try to avoid spraying water directly into the pelmet or head box.Next, sponge the exterior roller shutters with mild soap in warm water. Don’t use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers! Abrasive cleaners or solvents, scrubbing brushes and steel wool should not be used as they can potentially damage the surface. Lastly, wipe the shutters dry using an absorbent microfibre cloth or old towel.

3. Avoid leaving items on your window sills or under shutters
Do not leave items on your window sills or under your shutters as they can obstruct shutter operation. This can cause the shutter to gather on itself and limit movement or can cause the shutter slats to bend or damage. After a storm you’ll want to check all your exterior security roller shutters to ensure no debris is blocking the shutters from operating correctly.

4. Use your shutters
It is important to use your shutters regularly so that they do not cease up. We recommend you use them at least once a week.
